Joffa's match reports are back! He was at Dingley for all three games on Saturday, and here's what he took out of the day...
The Mustangs ventured to new territory on the weekend to take on the Dingley Dingoes in their first serious hit-out for the season.
The Under 19s started proceedings against the 2018 Southern League premiers and came up against a much bigger and stronger opponent. Although our boys went down by a few goals, there were a lot of good performances and once they begin to jell as a team they should be very competitive when the season gets underway.
The reserves put in a very solid performance, leading all game, and recorded a 17 point win. Young guns Braedon Dobie (3 goals) and Aiden Stares, both up from last years U19s, showed that they will play a lot of senior footy this year, while old timers Matt Peschke and Daniel McGee got plenty of the ball. Even “The Pres” Scott Dimitriou showed he’s still got a bit of good footy left in him with plenty of possessions and two goals. It was great to see Jake Findlay turn up and have a run.
By the time the seniors ran out the temperature had climbed and the wind had strengthened. It was an even first half with one point the difference at the main break. However, the Dingoes stepped on the gas in the second half, booting 7 goals to our one as we went down by 44 points. Aaron Mullett showed his exceptional skills with numerous quality possessions and long kicks down forward. Young Dermott Reynolds, who is still eligible for U19s, was given the responsibility of number one ruckman and did a great job. Lachie Sinnott, also from U19s, started at centre-half forward and kicked two goals in a promising performance. Lachie Sutherland looks like he’s recovered from his foot injury that kept him out for all of last season and James McManus is showing early good form. New recruits Rhys Chapman and Jayson Fitzgerald both showed that they will be valuable assets. Overall all it was a good first up hit-out with many positives to come from the game.
This week we host Officer at The Heights for the final hitout before the real thing so make sure you get down there and support the boys.
